Role Overview

Karisla Healthcare is seeking dedicated Residential Child Care Workers to join the team at Bannies Place, a residential children's home located in Grays, Essex.

Bannies Place provides a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for children and young people aged 7 to 17 who may have experienced trauma, loss, or instability, and who may present with complex behavioural needs.

In this role, you will work directly with young people to support their daily routines, educational engagement, emotional regulation, recreational activities, and healthcare appointments. You will play a vital role in building positive, trusting relationships and maintaining a stable, home-like environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality day-to-day residential care for children and young people aged 7–17.
  • Support emotional regulation, routine establishment, and personal growth using trauma-informed care principles.
  • Assist young people with daily routines, meal preparation, school attendance, and social activities.
  • Accompany residents to appointments, educational commitments, and community outings.
  • Maintain clear, detailed daily care logs, incident reports, and individual support plan updates.
  • Work collaboratively within a shift rota system, participating in shift handovers and team briefings.
  • Participate in flexible shift patterns including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins as required.

Person Specification & Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant Level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care (or equivalent recognised qualification).
  • Applicant must be aged 19 or over (to meet regulatory requirements for children's residential settings).
  • Genuine empathy, patience, and resilience when supporting children with complex behavioural and emotional needs.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary care team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding children and upholding high practice standards.

Desirable / Advantageous

  • Full UK driving licence (strongly preferred for resident transportation).
